About the Podcast

Becoming Whole: Six Spiritual Movements is a 7-episode podcast that explores spiritual formation and LGBTQ emotional health. Dive into six transformative spiritual movements, designed to help LGBT+ and same-sex-attracted Christians integrate their faith and sexuality. Drawing on six years of research and case studies from Josh Proctor’s groundbreaking doctoral research, the podcast offers practical wisdom and real-life insights.

Join candid conversations between Josh Proctor, a pastor and spiritual director, and Sarah Claire Smith Colling, a trauma-informed mental health therapist, as they explore the question: “What does it look like to be spiritual formed as a queer person who follows Christ?”

Through heartfelt discussions, recorded case studies, and interviews, Becoming Whole equips ministry leaders, spiritual directors, and pastors to support holistic spiritual growth for LGBT+ Christians, even while maintaining a traditional view of marriage and sexuality. It also offers hope, encouragement, and healing for LGBT+ listeners seeking to navigate the complexities of faith, sexuality, and emotional well-being.

Endorsements

Listen and share these podcasts! Josh has created a unique resource for LGBTQ (Queer)/SSA Christians who want to grow spiritually. Few people have addressed sexuality and spiritual formation, and yet sexuality forms a major aspect of our humanity. Josh moves beyond platitudes, religious rules and traditions, while remaining grounded in classic biblical Christian theology. Josh takes listeners through a journey of six movements toward spiritual integration starting with the move from shame to dignity ending with isolation to intimacy, and invites us to fresh spiritual practices. At the end of each episode Josh guides pastors, spiritual directors and others walking with Queer people in their journey to follow Christ. May God use this podcast to heal you and inspire you.

Josh's work focuses on the central issue for queer Christians: integrity, the harmony that comes when all parts of our lives and our souls work together. He has a deep wealth of knowledge grounded in decades of receiving LGBTQ/SSA+ people's stories of faith. He's an empathetic and insightful listener, and I am so excited to see his new project take shape.

Josh has achieved several milestones with this podcast and I am pleased to have been part of the process and can heartily endorse it to listeners. First, Josh has approached a challenging topic from a perspective not generally addressed. The church has too often judged, corrected or ignored what is happening spiritually with those in the LGBT+ community. Josh has changed this by researching what has happened, is happening and could happen in the spiritual life of those in this community. Second, he has done it in a way that is helpful to anyone who has a heart to help disciple others, whether you are affirming or not, there is much to learn here that will equip the listener to come alongside the Holy Spirit working in the hearts of those in the LGBT+ community.

The Becoming Whole Podcast provides a spiritual pathway that is deeply original, while feeling ancient at the same time. Josh's use of artistry, vulnerability, and exquisite language breathes new life into risky subject matter that most know yet few fully explore or experience. As deep calls to deep, this podcast compels me to bravely dive in to Josh's invitation to becoming whole.
